5 Thanksgiving Day Décor Ideas

Updated: Feb 3, 2019

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. The weather is cool, yet it’s not freezing. November is usually when we first turn on the fireplace and cozy up on rainy weekends, and the colors of the season leave me in complete awe. That’s why I love decorating for this holiday and bringing the vibrant look and feel of Fall into my home to help create an amazing ambiance and experience for my guests on Thanksgiving Day!

Here are 5 quick design tips and ideas that are also budget-friendly to get your home in the Fall spirit!

1. Keep Your Centerpieces Simple

I always begin my Thanksgiving Day décor around my centerpieces. Since Thanksgiving is all about the food, I try to keep the table décor light so it doesn’t distract from the main attraction! There are a couple of options I explore.

One idea is to buy a basic centerpiece from a home furnishing store. As you can see, the colors in this piece are simple, yet elegant. With pale greens and light browns and they really bring out the transition of the Fall season colors. I got this decorative piece at At Home for only $6! I had some sparkly, gold picture holders laying around that I decided to re-purpose and add some foliage too. I think it turned out beautifully, added some more traditional Fall color into the mix and gave my centerpiece an extra pop of brilliance.

Another option is to create your own floral arrangement. Now, you can certainly spring for real flowers, but that can be costly. In this case, I went to the Dollar Store and purchased a few sprigs of Fall-looking flowers along with foliage and arranged them in a vase I already had. The results are both breathtaking. Very simple and elegant.

2. Set Your Table

Sometimes, the simple elegance of a place setting can be all you need to tie your holiday look together. For Thanksgiving, I opted for an orange cloth napkin, placed on a plain white plate, silver charger and brown and silver place mat. As you can see, I mixed the gold pops from the centerpiece and the silver napkin rings (things don’t always have to be so matchy-matchy – that’s half the fun of Fall!). Last, I added in some foliage to tie the look together.

3. Fall Up Your Artwork

I have these beautiful, vintage, frames on the wall of my dining room. I swap out the wreaths on them regularly to make sure my home’s presence mimics the season or holiday. For Thanksgiving, I found these adorable mini wreaths at At Home. I flanked a beautiful white wreath with two orange wreaths. The décor added a needed pop of Fall color on the walls and completely transformed the bland space.

4. Pumpkins Aren’t Just for Halloween

Sometime around September, as you walk through home and décor stores, you’ll start seeing decorative pumpkins everywhere. Some are true Halloween pumpkins, while others have a more Fall feel to them.

I grabbed a few of these the weekend after Halloween and use them around my living room and kitchen as my Fall décor elements. If you’re mindful of colors, you can completely use these pumpkins as both Halloween and Thanksgiving/Fall décor around your house.

Quick-Tip – while you might be tempted to buy those cute pumpkins for Halloween, if you can hold off a few weeks, they go on sale! I got all of my Fall pumpkin décor for over 50% off since the stores were getting ready for Christmas.

5. Finishing Touches

I also found an amazing Spiced Vanilla Pumpkin potpourri that complements the smells of the season. Add in a few candles, and light your fireplace to set the mood, and you’ll be all set.

I hope these Thanksgiving Day décor ideas get your creativity flowing on how you can create a festive Fall look, without breaking the bank this holiday weekend! Try some of the ideas out and let me know how you put your own spin on them in the comments below!

Happy Thanksgiving!

With Love, From Kay
